It's the last few days of the National Drive Electric Month and the closest event here in Wenatchee just occurred last Sunday (10/5/2025) at the Pybus Public market. It was a very early event, it started at 7:30 in the morning and went on till 9:30 in the morning in the front parking lot.

A Couple of weeks ago I went to a similar event that was held in Richland at the Reach Museum. It was a lot of fun meeting new people and showing off my Kia EV9.

So, this weekend I got up extra early because I was excited to show off the Arcimoto FUV (Fun utility vehicle.)

I stopped off at work before the event to pick up Mort and showed up at about 7:25. What I didn't know was there was another car event going on at the same time called Cars and Coffee. This is a group of car enthusiasts that like to get together about twice a week to basically do a very casual show and shine. They get to hang out and talk to each other, and yes, have some coffee and maybe some breakfast.

The Cars and Coffee organization was kind enough to let Plugin NCW to Share their space.

Just to set the tone.

On Saturday, I was running errands in Wenatchee in the FUV. I was driving up Miller St. and there was this older gentleman driving his Rascal up the sidewalk at about 2 1/2 miles an hour and he looked over as I was riding by in the FUV and he smiled and gave me a big thumbs up like, “hey dude. That's a really big Rascal you got there.”

So, the next morning on Sunday, I showed up at the event and everybody's looking at me like I'm from Mars. (Honestly, that's kind of the reaction I hoped for.) No one in Wenatchee, unless they've seen me in it, or read about it online has seen an Arcimoto FUV before. (OK, there was one gentleman who had test driven one A few years ago.)

I received lots of smiles and comments, but I'll tell you what, aside from me getting to show off the FUV, the best part was seeing all the cool electric cars that were there.

What was there

Obviously, lots of Tesla's were on site, including several model X's, a model S, a model 3, and a model Y. No cyber trucks though. Ford was represented with the F-150 Lightning. A couple of Rivian pickup trucks were on display. We had a Kia EV6, a Nissan Aria, a Chevy Bolt, and even a couple of electric Porsches.

But the big star of the show, in my opinion, was the BrightDrop RV conversion. BrightDrop is a spinoff of GM that manufacturers electric Last mile delivery trucks and somebody got the bright idea, “Let's do an RV conversion.” Honestly, it was pretty cool and was the showstopper.

Among the vehicles that showed up we had ones as old as 2012 and one as new as this year. One car owner had 212,000 miles on his EV and it was still going strong.

It's hard to say how fast the adoption of electric cars is going to be happening in the United States now since the $7500 federal subsidies have gone away. Here's something to think about, September of 2025 was the biggest month for electric car sales in the United States.

Should you be driving an electric car? Well, that's not for me to say, but as I have mentioned before, with Chelan and Douglas counties both having the cheapest electricity in the United States. If you're looking for an affordable daily driver you might want to consider electric.
