1st In-N-Out Burger opens in Washington. It’s about damn time
Well, it is official, Washington state has its very first In-N-Out burger. It opened in its location in Ridgefield, if you're wondering where Ridgefield is, it's about 1/2 an hour from Portland, OR. So honestly, it's a little far for me to drive to get a double-double.
This is actually kind of a big deal for Ridgefield for a couple of reasons. One is that it looks like they're going to employ about 80 people. The starting wage is $18.75 an hour which is a little bit higher than the state minimum wage.
According to kiro7.com,
‘The Ridgefield location, at 5801 North Pioneer Canyon Drive, will serve hamburgers, fries, and shakes made with the same approach that dates back to 1948 when founders Harry and Esther Snyder opened the first In-N-Out in Baldwin Park, California.'
In-N-Out Burger got its start back in 1948 in Southern California and they've expanded so now including Washington, 9 states. (Nevada, Texas, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon)
The company is continuing to expand. They're now getting prepared to open what they call an Eastern hub in Tennessee with multiple restaurants and an office building.
Our new In-N-Out burger here in Washington state is restaurant number 424 and they are hoping to open three more before the end of the year in Colorado. (Wait a minute, Colorado gets 3 and we only get one?)
What is it that makes In-N-Out Burger so attractive to its customers? Consistent quality and a simple menu. You get burgers, you get fries, you get milkshakes, and beverages. (And one item on the “not so secret” menu.) When you have a simple menu, you get to place all your time, money and effort into the quality of that product. You don't have to worry about 480 different menu items.
Would I like to go and try an in and out burger? Sure. Am I prepared to drive Almost all the way to Portland to get it? Not so much.
