Check Your Dog Food Now — Pedigree Just Issued a Recall
If you have canned Pedigree dog food in your home right now, it's worth taking a close look at the label.
The Pedigree Recall: What Pet Owners Need to Know Right Now

The FDA has recalled two lots of Pedigree wet dog food because the product may contain sharp metal or plastic fragments. These pieces can cause choking or even life-threatening injuries in dogs.
The recalled product is Pedigree High Protein Chopped Chicken and Duck, sold in 13.2-ounce cans. The two affected lot numbers are 613C3KKCFC and 613C1KKCFC, which are printed on the bottom or side of the can.

The Recall Has a Troubling Twist — The Food Was Supposed to Be Destroyed
The situation is more complicated than a simple manufacturing mistake. Mars Petcare, the company that makes Pedigree, says these lots had already failed quality-control checks and were supposed to be destroyed by a third party. Instead, the food was illegally returned to stores and sold to pet owners who had no way of knowing it was unsafe.
Swallowing sharp objects can seriously harm dogs. This includes choking, cuts to the mouth, throat, or digestive tract, and blockages in the stomach or intestines. These problems can be life-threatening if not treated quickly. If your dog ate food from the recalled lots and shows distress, trouble swallowing, vomiting, tiredness, or loss of appetite, call your veterinarian right away.
What Washington Pet Owners Should Do If They Have the Recalled Cans
If you have cans matching the recalled lot numbers at home, do not feed them to your pet. The FDA recommends disposing of the product safely or returning it to the place of purchase for a refund.
Dog owners here in the state of Washington, check your pantry today and share this information with anyone who feeds their dog Pedigree wet food. Taking a moment to check the label can help keep your pet safe.
