On June 24, 2022, Metallica invaded Download Germany in Hockenheim as they continued their whirlwind European tour. Staying true to the sets that preceded this gig, Metallica put together an epic show that spanned their discography for tens of thousands of screaming fans.

The entire Download Germany show is available to stream and download at LiveMetallica.com and nugs.net; as expected, the one-two punch of "Whiplash" and "Creeping Death" served as a heavy, unforgettable opening to the show. Metallica's latest video release captures the live energy of "Creeping Death" in Hockenheim—check it out below.

Watch Metallica Perform "Creeping Death" Live in Germany

The performance of "Creeping Death" at Download Germany marked Metallica's 1,557th time playing the song onstage, making it one of their most popular songs to include in their setlists.

They debuted it in their encore performance at Keystone in Palo Alto, Calif., on Halloween 1983; this was nearly nine months before Ride the Lightning hit the streets. The track would later be released as the only official single from the band's sophomore LP. The international single release included the band's studio covers of Diamond Head's "Am I Evil?" and Blitzkrieg's "Blitzkrieg."

Some of Our Favorite Live Photos of Kirk Hammett

Kirk Hammett is a shredder, plain and simple. Or more specifically, he's a ripper. The Ripper.

Whether you're listening to him ripping or watching videos or staring at photos, one thing is obvious: this guy is a six-string master. While we could never create a collection that covers Hammett's entire history with Metallica, we've picked a handful of some of our favorite photos over the last 20 years showing the guitarist rocking out and having fun.

Some of Our Favorite Live Photos of James Hetfield

Covering nearly 20 years of performances, the below photos display why James Hetfield is one of the best frontmen in rock and roll.

Each shot shows his raw energy, intensity and overall fun spirit at Metallica's live shows. If a photo is worth a thousand words, we know these shots are worth thousands of Hetfield's growls.
