Are Americans Really Honest About Their Number Of Partners
To say that we as human beings are preoccupied by sex is probably an understatement. This probably explains why we actually have a National Sex Day.
I should mention that this is not a formal recognized day in the United States, but informally, it's been around since the 1990s, and it's been showing up on social media since 2010.
How do you celebrate?
There are obviously many different ways that you can celebrate National Sex Day, but we're not going to go into that. Instead, we're going to talk about an article published by bespokesurgical.com delving into the number of sexual partners, averaged by state.
According to Bespokesurgical.com,
‘Five years ago, Bespoke Surgical asked Americans a question that almost everyone has been asked at some point in their dating life: “What’s your number?” In our original 2021 study on the average number of sexual partners by state, we explored how Americans viewed sexual history, stigma, and honesty in relationships.
Now, we’re checking back in.
There are all kinds of euphemisms that we can use for sex. One of my personal favorites was coined by William Shakespeare a long, long time ago when he made the reference to the “beast with two backs” in “Othello”.
There are also the famous outtakes at the end of “Grumpy Old Men” with Burgess Meredith that always springs to mind.
So, in this survey, 2200 people across the United States were surveyed and asked to reveal the number of sexual partners they've had in their lifetime. Some of the numbers are actually quite frightening. (At least for me.)
So what are the numbers?
Rhode Island clocks in with the horniest population, with 52.2 sexual partners, (where do they find the time?) closely followed by Arkansas with 52. New Hampshire with 41.2.
Honestly, I find those numbers astonishing. I guess it could be because it's cold in Rhode Island during the winter.
On the bottom of the list.
Utah reported the lowest number of people getting lucky with an average of 9.3. South Dakota with 9.8, Idaho with 11.2, and Texas, the lone star state clocks in with 11.4.
Washington state comes close to the national average with 23.
The other thing that we've learned from this survey is that Americans pretty much lie about “their number” When they're talking to their sexual partner. Based on the survey the average American has 20 sexual partners. But when they are with their significant other, they only fess up to 9 or 10.
Over 50% of the people in the survey also said that knowing their partner’s “number” could potentially negatively impact their relationship.
Your "number"? I don't need to know.
So, on one side of the coin, we have an open and honest relationship, where our partner knows everything about us. And on the other side of the coin, we have the fear that if our partner really knew everything about us, they wouldn't like us anymore.
What is my “number”? It's none of your business.
And your “number” is none of mine.
