Every day, the world stage gets a little more tense. From the Ukraine to Iran, tensions between Pakistan and India, China threatening Taiwan and North Korea seemingly threatening everyone.

An increasing percentage of Americans in the Northwest are concerned about what would happen if somebody decided to drop “the big one.”

According to msn.com,
According to reporting by Metro, seven locations in the United States were previously highlighted on Russian state television as potential nuclear targets in the event of a major confrontation. Metro reported that during an earlier phase of the invasion, Russian state television aired a list of US locations it claimed would be among the first targets in a nuclear strike scenario.’

Some of these 7 targets seem obvious; a few seem a little obscure.

California – Sacramento

Washington – Oso

The Pentagon and Camp David seem obvious. Fort Ritchie is a little more obscure since it's been decommissioned. Sacramento also seems a little out of date unless they just want to wipe out California.

Why Oso?

Oso, here in Washington state had me wondering what was going on until I looked a little deeper into it. One of the things that Oso has is the Jim Creek Navy transmission center. Located near Arlington, the Jim Creek Navy Transmission Center is the primary Communication Hub For the submarine Pacific Fleet.

I would think that the Naval Air station on Whidbey Island would also be a prime target because of their sonar listening station. Because of technological advances and sensitivity of equipment. There are only a few of these listening stations left around the world.

I would like to think that cooler heads will prevail in all of this, and there is some evidence to believe that that might be the case. But I'm not being blase about all this. There is a little bit of concern lingering way back in the deep recesses of my brain that says, “Maybe I should be just a tiny bit nervous.”

What do you think?
