New car technology can be fun and a little confusing. My car likes to talk to me and tell me stuff. It seems like voice recognition is part of every new car now. I can tell it to call my friends. I can tell it to find the nearest charging station, (yes, it’s an EV) and it will give me warnings. This can be a little disconcerting if you are not expecting it.

About a month ago I was driving down Chelan Street and it went “DING, stop light camera one quarter mile ahead”. I was coming to the corner of 5th and Chelan.

If you have lived in Wenatchee for a while, you know that the city of Wenatchee put in a stop light camera there and they were handing out tickets to anyone who ran a red light. I honestly don’t know if that is still going on, but my car seemed concerned. When I stopped at the light the car mage a little video game sound, I guess to let me know that I was a good boy and stopped when I was supposed to.

I started thinking “how many more stop light cameras does my car know about?”

I started cruising around looking for cameras and waiting to see if the car gave me a warning. I found that the car knew about three so far. Two on Chelan Street and one on Mission Street. I saw way more cameras than the car told me about so I thought that was interesting. What is it trying to hide? Is it colluding with the city? Do they not want me to know that they are watching me?
