PUD General Manager Gary Ivory informed commissioners at this week's PUD board meeting that the change would go into effect as of July.

Local media partner Wenatchee World organized a community roundtable with Douglas County PUD General Manager Gary Ivory and 12th-District Senator Brad Hawkins on the district’s future with hydrogen fuel Thursday.

PUD commissioners selected a contractor to build the center Tuesday, with plans to start the project quickly.

But the arrangement calls for Microsoft to buy the actual electrical power it uses from a third-party.

Tribal members will be allowed to raise summer Chinook Salmon at the hatchery while the PUD will hold and relocate adult fish to areas on the Columbia River above the Chief Joseph or Grand Coulee dams.

The plant will generate hydrogen that the utility plans to sell from a fueling station for hydrogen powered cars and for other industrial uses.
