Were you a victim of the “Google glitch”?
While everyone else was freaking out about CrowdStrike and their problems. Another quiet internet snafu occurred for some people using Google Chrome. If you're a Windows user, you may have discovered that Google Chrome couldn't remember your passwords.
According to the register.com,
‘The issue, which was limited to Windows users on the M127 version of the Chrome browser, meant that users were unable to find saved passwords. "Approximately 2 percent of users out of the 25 percent of the entire user base where the configuration change was rolled out, experienced this issue," Google said.’
I don't know about you, but I kind of depend on Google Chrome to remember my passwords because I sure can't. I know that's a sad commentary on my life. Maybe it's because I'm older, maybe it's because I've just have a crappy memory, but I depend on the Google Chrome browser to remember my passwords.
Of course, this whole thing really illustrates the downside of using a browser to remember your passwords at all. (Like I do.) Happily, my access to my passwords via Google Chrome was not impacted but statistics show that the number of people that were or are being impacted will run into the millions.
So, you now have a choice. You can continue to use strong passwords and save them in Google Chrome. Or you can go with stupid passwords like “Bubba123” And have a password that you will remember.
I know I shouldn't depend on Google Chrome to remember my passwords.
But I can barely remember that I'm using Google Chrome for a browser at all.
